ITS PAST

Although there has been a house on the site since 1066, when the land was granted to Sir Adam de Coveston by William the Conqueror, the present house, listed grade II*, is believed to date from the early to mid 16th century. It suffered heavily during the civil war when it was partially demolished by cannon fire in 1646. The remains were repaired and for the next 200 years it served as farmhouse. The Manor was finally restored to its former glory in 1856.

ITS POSITION

Although only 6 miles from Taunton, Cothelstone is a world away from the rush of modern life, and its wonderful position, with the 15th century church of St Thomas of Canterbury behind it, and surrounded by the Quantock hills area of outstanding natural beauty, makes it an ideal location for a special event.

The Manor is in a magical setting with its many warm Quantock stone walls and its interesting and unusual features, including a fine grade 1 listed gatehouse, a late 16th century gazebo and its impressive pillared and arched entrance gates.

ITS AVAILABLITY

Our family home is available only on limited occasions for very special events, where we can accommodate between 12 and 20 seated or up to 60 for a reception. For larger corporate events and weddings we can accommodate up to 200 in a marquee in the walled garden.
